Our Scholarship programme allows students with a particular talent, whether in academic subjects, music, sport, or co-curricular pursuits, to be recognised for their potential and be stimulated and challenged to improve still further.

Scholarships at Ampleforth College reward excellence and are prestigious. Scholars benefit from an additional enrichment programme in their subject area with access to co-curricular opportunities including talks, external competitions, workshops, and mentoring.

Recipients are required to show strong and ongoing contribution to the life of the College in their particular field, to work hard and to set a good example. Scholarships are subject to annual review and, in some cases, specific conditions. Most are honorary awards which do not hold any monetary value but are a strong indication of a child likely to flourish at Ampleforth and can be extremely helpful in supporting a bursary application.

Scholarships are tenable until the next assessment stage: for example, Year 7 awards are held for two years and students can then reapply for a scholarship in Year 9.  Year 9 scholarships are held for three years before assessment into the Sixth Form.

The number of awards and bursaries made in any year is at the discretion of the Head.

A 20% discount is offered to the children of HM Armed forces and HM Diplomatic Service who are in receipt of the CEA.

Examination Dates 2020-21

In 2020 – 2021, all examinations will be sat online. The College will send all details about the examination arrangements to the candidate's school and parents.

Headteachers of schools entering candidates for the examination are asked to send in a report on their candidates before the examination. This should include a general assessment of character and comments on academic potential, reading and interests. The Registrar is always happy to guide schools on the scholarship programme.
