Amy joined the Food and Events Team at Ampleforth in 2017 having built up 10 years of experience in the Hospitality sector. She is in the role of Team Leader.
"Primarily, Ampleforth has offered me great opportunities to progress in my career. It provides a great variety of work, catering to staff, students, groups on retreat and one off parties. Having only joined the team last year, I feel comfortable and confident in these surroundings, Ampleforth has good working conditions and some really useful benefits."
Chris joined Ampleforth College in 2015 after reading History at St Catherine's College, Oxford. Chris is a former vice-president of the Oxford Union Society and worked as a tutor for a leading university admissions consultancy before taking up the role as a History teacher and Housemaster at the College.
"Ampleforth provides many opportunities to shape my career. The College gave excellent teacher training, allowing me to develop the craft of teaching whilst taking real day-to-day responsibility for academic sets. I enjoy the fact that the interdependence and inseparability of pastoral and academic responsibilities is recognised at Ampleforth. I have been able to develop these aspects of my role simultaneously, in the context of the holistic, Benedictine education that we offer our students. There is an excellent rapport between staff and students at Ampleforth, arising from the fact that the Valley is a home, as well as a school and place of work. As a Catholic, I have valued immensely the opportunity to practice my faith here."
Dale came to Ampleforth in 2012 as a Food and Events team member and is now in the position of Trainee Chef.
"Ampleforth provides a great work environment, allowing me to work towards my NVQ Level 2 in Professional Cookery. I have been given the opportunity to progress in my career whilst learning and developing new skills. Along with beautiful surroundings I have good working hours and a warm and friendly team round me. Every day is a different challenge at Ampleforth and I wouldn't change that!"
Prior to coming to Ampleforth in 2007, Michał was an IT technician working for General Electric. Michał began his career at Ampleforth as General Assistant in the Sport Centre, moving onto a Housekeeping position before becoming Housekeeping Services Manager in 2014. Michal was appointed Head of IT in 2021.
"I came to Ampleforth in June 2006 for a two week holiday and instantly fell in love with the place. I came back in January 2007 and started as a General Assistant in the Sport Centre working term time only. I moved to the Housekeeping Department for a full time job, and when opportunity arose, I applied for the Deputy Head of Housekeeping and became Housekeeping Services Manager in 2014. I have had high and low moments at Ampleforth but I feel I have always been looked after. I came here with basic English but enough drive and determination to get me to where I am now."
Janis' previous experience includes bar, shop and wholesale work. She joined Ampleforth in 2004 where she has now been a member of our Housekeeping team for over ten years.
"Ampleforth has come to be like part of my family. I love my work and being part of a team that works together. I also enjoy being able to interact with colleagues, students and parents alike. Since joining Ampleforth I have gained the BICS qualification and I am extremely grateful to be able to contribute to the student's development and well-being throughout their time at Ampleforth College. Of course, there is also the beautiful scenery here that you can never tire of."
