Ampleforth College's Sports Department is pleased to offer an update on the development of the department over the last two years.

Over the past two years the following changes have taken place in our Sports Department:

  • Identification and resourcing of our ‘skyscraper sports’ (rugby, hockey, netball, cricket and tennis) - In the same way a city is recognised and defined by its skyline, we refer to our five core sports as ‘skyscraper sports’. These are what we continue to develop and excel at and what we believe Ampleforth is recognised for on a national and international level
  • Increasing the amount of Games time allocated for both Junior and Senior students (Monday, Wednesday and Saturday afternoons are now dedicated to school sport)
  • Embedding our 6 Core Sports Values into everything we do (Pride, Ownership, Work Ethic, Enjoyment, Resilience and Team)
  • Investing in the High Performance Suite to develop the functional movement and strength and conditioning of our  1st Team and A team players
  • Elite athlete development during Core PE (run by Mr James)
  • Employing more coaching specialists and sports specific Graduate teachers
  • Changing the whole school Games policy to support the development of our skyscraper sports
