Ampleforth College partners with Yorkshire County Cricket Club

Ampleforth College is delighted to announce that we have partnered with Yorkshire County Cricket Club (YCCC) in an exciting venture which further strengthens Ampleforth’s reputation as a centre of cricket excellence in the north of England.
Building on an established relationship, this year Ampleforth has become the North Yorkshire hub for YCCC Performance Pathway boys’ winter training, for boys’ and girls’ summer fixtures, and for the professional women’s squad training sessions. The College is excited to be hosting its first ever professional cricket game - the first in Ryedale - when Yorkshire Women’s 1st XI play Surrey in the MetroBank One Day Cup on Wednesday 26 August.
In return, Ampleforth students will benefit from coaching sessions from professional YCCC players and coaches. There will also be additional investment to enhance the all-year-round coaching facilities at the College.
Jon Mutton, Headmaster, commented, “We have a very fine cricketing tradition here at Ampleforth and have invested significantly in our facilities in recent years. This partnership with Yorkshire County Cricket Club provides an excellent opportunity to offer the very best coaching opportunities and cricket facilities both to our own students and to talented girl and boy cricketers from across Yorkshire and beyond.”
Gavin Hamilton, General Manager of Cricket at Yorkshire CCC, commented, “We are delighted to confirm that Yorkshire County Cricket Club will be bringing Tier 1 women’s cricket to Ampleforth in 2026. The facilities and the unique setting that Ampleforth provides will showcase the standard of outgrounds required to support the continued progression of the women’s game, and we’re very much looking forward to seeing elite women’s cricket played there.”
James Martin, Head of Pathway at Yorkshire said, "Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Ampleforth College have enjoyed a long and successful relationship built on the shared values of sporting excellence, education, and personal development. Building on this established relationship, YCCC and Ampleforth College are now formalising and expanding their collaboration to create an enhanced Pathway and North Yorkshire Hub."
