We believe in the importance of achieving the right balance in life and encourage every pupil to make the most of the huge range of co-curricular activities and clubs at Ampleforth. Every Friday, the whole school stops lessons and takes part in activities all afternoon. This allows sufficient time to make real progress in an area of interest. Activities are also on offer daily after school. Depending on their age, pupils choose a minimum of 2 or 3 activities and some are involved in many more.

The opportunities are endless – from debating to karate, silver-smithing to chess, clay and game shooting to eco-engineering.  We have a vehicle restoration group where our pupils get hands-on experience bringing old cars back to life and converting them to electric.  There are all sorts of societies from astronomy to politics; we provide dance classes, archery, horse riding and kayaking. There is something for everyone. We also support a variety of community service projects for our Year 12 students on Friday afternoons where they help in local primary schools, charity shops, and care homes. Service is a core feature of life at Ampleforth.
