The day started bright and early, travelling away to Queen Mary's for the U14A county finals. The first pool games were against Scarborough, Queen Mary's and Harrogate Grammar School, which the girls won 2-0, 2-0 and 5-0 respectively. This led to a semi-final against Ashville, where the girls played well to secure another win and progress to the final. The girls played very well and did not concede a goal all day.
The hockey final was decided by a narrow 1-0 win in a tense and hard-fought contest. St Peter's came close to scoring first with a dangerous long corner. The attacker drove into the circle and looked certain to score, but Anabelle (9B) produced a superb save under pressure. With the ball still loose in the D, Mary (9M) reacted quickly to complete the defensive effort, clearing the danger and keeping the scores level.
That proved to be a crucial moment, as the game's only goal arrived from an exciting counter-attack. The move began deep in the defensive D with Nancy (9M), who showed great composure to start the attack. She linked play brilliantly through Ettie (9A) and Lily (9B), whose quick passing carried the team up the pitch. The move culminated with Liv (9M) receiving the ball in the circle before confidently finishing past the goalkeeper. It was a fantastic team goal and enough to secure a well-earned final victory.
