Rugby

Rugby is an integral part of life at Ampleforth College with up to ten teams across five age groups involved in fixtures on a weekly basis.

Every student has the opportunity to find their level with a focus on skill development, team spirit, and respect, that mirrors the values of Ampleforth College as a whole.

Competing in the highly competitive Northern schools circuit, we aim to deliver an enjoyable and inclusive rugby programme playing against some of the best Rugby schools in the country.

Our highly motivated staff deliver games and training session three times a week and offer a full strength and conditioning programme for all students who wish to attend. The rugby programme includes a full school pre-season which is run over the last week of the summer holidays to ensure the highest level of preparation for the following year.

At U15 and U18 age groups we compete in the Natwest National Schools Trophy and there is also a full inter House Sevens Rugby competition in which we aim to create a level of competition and camaraderie amongst everyone at the school. During the Lent term the Rugby programme focuses on Rugby Sevens where we host over 43 teams in a series of Rugby seven’s tournaments at under 13, under 15 and under 18 age groups.

We have had a number of players who have moved on to representational honours either at County, Area, or National levels and have forged links with England Rugby Developing Player Pathway in which many of our students are involved.
