House Matron (St Margaret's) - Part Time

Hours: 1 day per week

Closing date:  Friday 26th September, Midday

Interviews:   Week Commencing 29th September 2025

Founded in 1802 and set in a beautiful Yorkshire valley, Ampleforth College is the world’s foremost Catholic boarding school, welcoming girls and boys of all faiths aged 11-18. Each student’s unique talents are recognised and nurtured within a welcoming community rooted in Benedictine values. At its foundation, the basic mission of a Catholic School is to invite young people into a transforming encounter with Christ through the life of the Christian Community.  This gift is realised in Catholic Education as a place where children grow in:

  • self-knowledge
  • self-acceptance
  • self-gift

We are seeking a Part Time House Matron who is dedicated to care for the students’ emotional, health and practical wellbeing. The House Matron will best serve the students by supporting the Housemaster, as well as the staff of the College Infirmary, for example by transporting students to routine and emergency appointments. The ability to drive and a clean and full driving licence are therefore essential.

As House Matron, you will play a significant role in the development of students who are under your care.  You will need to be able to stay calm under pressure whilst also being able to empathise and engage with our students. This is a demanding, but highly rewarding role, allowing you to help develop and encourage independence of the students in your care.

There is a need for flexibility in the role and a good sense of humour is essential. You will be part of a dynamic house team and having the ability to work on your own will also be needed.

Ampleforth has a fantastic range of benefits to offer, such as:

In return we offer the following benefits:-

  • Free meal during working hours
  • A generous Bounty scheme for referral of new staff

  • Employee assistance programme
  • Staff Lodging (where available)
  • A friendly and supportive working environment
  • 10% Staff Discount at Ampleforth Abbey Shop and Tearooms
