Confirmation 2024
What a joy it was to join with so many families for Confirmation on Sunday. Marie and I congratulate all our students who received the sacrament of Confirmation from the Bishop of Middlesbrough, Rt Rev Terence Drainey - it was an uplifting and wonderful day for the Abbey and the College.
My thanks to Fr Ambrose, Gabrielle, Ben, the monastic community, the Schola and a host of other helpers who made it such a special day in the journey of faith for our students.
With the sun finally shining down on the Valley, the Girls 1st XI cricketers had a competitive win against RGS and it was wins pretty much across the board for our Tennis players against Scarborough College. Congratulations to the U18A Girls Tennis team for progressing to the 3rd round of the LTA's National Cup - wishing them all the best for the next round! The weather held out for our annual Inter-House Athletics this week too with St Margaret's and St Dunstan's & St Oswald's taking the top spots for both the Inters and the Seniors. Thanks to Will James and his team for organising an afternoon which epitomises the joyful and supportive atmosphere here at the College - a chance for the whole school to be together and have fun.
Well done to our Art and DT A level students for finishing their portfolios and starting their first public exams and to our GCSE candidates who started their exams this week too. We continue to encourage Year 13 and Year 11 to give their very best and the same is true of the whole community as we support and encourage each other during this crucial term of academic focus. It has been a pleasure to have the Principal of the Eaton House Schools in London here this afternoon looking around our beautiful school. Tomorrow we welcome a host of families to the Valley for our final Open Morning of the academic year - I am looking forward to meeting more budding Amplefordians. Our recruitment and fundraising drives continue apace next week as Harriet, Emma and I head to Hong Kong for a variety of meetings with schools, prospective families, agents, Old Amplefordians and current and past parents.
All best wishes,
Peter
