The day started bright and early, travelling away to Queen Mary's for the U14A county finals. The first pool games were against Scarborough, Queen Mary's and Harrogate Grammar School, which the girls won 2-0, 2-0 and 5-0 respectively. This led to a semi-final against Ashville, where the girls played well to secure another win and progress to the final. The girls played very well and did not concede a goal all day.

Coming together in faith
Our first Mass of the new academic year brought the Ampleforth community together in the Abbey, providing a special opportunity to mark the beginning of a new chapter. With pupils and staff gathered in prayer, the service set a thoughtful tone for the year ahead, reflecting the Benedictine values that underpin life at Ampleforth. For new and returning pupils alike, it was a chance to pause, reflect and begin the year together as one community, with faith at the heart of school life.

The Valley has been full of energy as pupils have thrown themselves into pre-season preparations across our sports programme. Our senior and junior rugby players have been putting in the work during a pre-season camp, with the senior side also enjoying a valuable warm-up fixture against Malton & Norton RUFC. On the hockey pitch, our 1st XI, intermediate and junior teams have welcomed City of York HC and Harrogate Hockey Club for some excellent early-season fixtures. With the first full round of matches just around the corner, the teams are ready for the season ahead!
Ampleforth College was delighted to welcome Yorkshire Women for their Metro Bank One-Day Cup fixture against Surrey on Wednesday 26 August. The match brought high-level county cricket to the College, with players, officials and supporters enjoying the unique setting of Ampleforth’s cricket grounds.
In a closely fought contest, Surrey ultimately secured a two-wicket victory, successfully chasing Yorkshire’s total of 171. Despite the result, the match provided an exciting day of cricket and a fantastic opportunity for the Ampleforth community to experience women’s county cricket on home ground.

Many congratulations to our Year 11 students on their excellent GCSE results today! We are delighted with this year's results, with 31% achieving the very top grades of 9-8, 53% achieving between 9-7 and 71% between 9-6. These are a very strong set of GCSE results, particularly given that Ampleforth does not select students simply on academic ability but provides an all-round education which equips students for every aspect of life. We are proud of the range of academic ability here and stretch all our students to achieve their very best. These GCSE results are also evidence that our students have achieved considerably higher grades than predicted in their baseline data when they first arrived at Ampleforth. This achievement speaks to the hard work and dedication of our students - and their teachers. The results are promising for continued academic progress and achievement in the Sixth Form where we be joined by a large intake of new students from across the country.
This year’s A Level and BTEC results were pleasing, with 31% of our students achieving A*- A and 55% A*-B. Once the full data has been worked through, we know these results will show that a lot of academic value has been added during the students’ time at Ampleforth.
it is this sense of community, unlike any other, that most resonates with the description of Lourdes as a place where the distance between heaven and earth is extraordinarily small
As we take a moment this summer holiday to pause, it is an opportune time to reflect on some of the many activities and achievements that have shaped the past few months.
Beyond the classroom, pupils have participated in a rich and varied programme of academic, sporting, artistic and co-curricular pursuits, making the most of the opportunities that the term has offered. As always, it has been a busy term here at Ampleforth. The following selection of highlights provides a glimpse into the breadth of school life this summer, celebrating the endeavour, enthusiasm and sense of community that continue to characterise the school. Here is a look at just some of the moments of the last term of the 2025/26 school year.
