Service Families
We understand the importance of a stable education for children of serving military and diplomatic personnel who may have to move regularly. We welcome applications from service families and are proud to support them. Those eligible for CEA (Continuity of Education Allowance) will pay 10% of the boarding fees.

Why choose Ampleforth...
Ampleforth’s mission is to educate the whole person. Students benefit from our strong and vibrant community, ambitious curriculum, and rich co-curricular life, where individual strengths are recognised and encouraged. Our ethos is centred on being welcoming to all, caring for each other, and valuing inclusion, empathy and compassion. This equips students with the skills, mindset, and confidence to flourish in life, and with a strong moral compass.
Ampleforth offers a:
-
broad and ambitious curriculum designed to enthuse, inspire curiosity, and foster a love of learning. We aim to develop independence of mind and critical thinking, vital skills for study after school and for life.
-
rich co-curricular programme with a huge range of opportunities and activities to enable the broadest possible experience and encourage the discovery of interests and talents.
-
full boarding environment 80% of our pupils are boarders and they are all here at weekends. Many of our day pupils are also here to enjoy social events and other activities.
-
extensive and varied weekend programme Ampleforth is a 7-day a week school with lessons on Saturday mornings followed by sports for all and social events in the evening. After Mass on Sundays, a full trips and activities programme is on offer, and with over 2,000 acres at their disposal, pupils can enjoy our beautiful valley with their friends.
-
home away from home We cherish and love each child. Each boarding house has dedicated pastoral and academic staff, including a Housemaster / Housemistress, their Assistant, a Matron, and a team of academic Tutors. Each child has a supportive team around them, who listens to them, knows them really well, and is in regular communication with parents.
The College has a long history of connection with the military and a hugely popular Combined Cadet Force (CCF). Find out more about our CCF here.
Transport & travel links
Ampleforth is set in a beautiful 2000-acre estate on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, yet our proximity to the mainline train station at York means that London can be reached from York in just 1 hour 45 minutes, and Edinburgh in 2 hours 23 minutes. Our travel department offers a friendly, efficient and bespoke service for students and parents, providing advice and assistance with all travel arrangements for school holidays, including escorted train services to London, Edinburgh and Oxford, transport to York station, and booking airport transfers and taxis.
