At Ampleforth College we understand the importance of a stable, supportive and consistent education for the children of serving military families and we are proud to support those families who move regularly due to professional commitments. We welcome applications from children of military families including those who are eligible for the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) through the Ministry of Defence. At Ampleforth we offer CEA + 10%.

A full boarding environment with 100% of boarders in school at weekends. Ampleforth is a 7-day a week school with a full morning of school on a Saturday followed by a sports afternoon. Following mass on Sunday students enjoy an extensive and varied weekend programme.

A home away from home and nurturing pastoral care which cherishes and loves each child as a gift from God, and through which they learn to serve the needs of others is at the core of our boarding house life. With a dedicated House Parent, Assistant House Parent and Matron, the support network is there for our students to be heard and listened to.

Transport & travel links
Ampleforth is set in a beautiful 2000-acre estate on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, yet our proximity to the main line train station at York means that London can be reached in just 1 hour and 45 minutes, and Edinburgh in 2hrs 23 minutes. Our travel department offers a friendly, efficient and bespoke service for students and parents, providing advice and assistance with all travel arrangements for school holidays, including escorted train services to London and Edinburgh, bus services to York station, and booking airport transfers and taxis. We offer fully escorted journeys to both King's Cross and Edinburgh Waverley stations at the beginning and end of all school holidays.
Eligibility & fees
Ampleforth is very proud of its military heritage and to this day continues to welcome families of serving military personnel. Families who are eligible for the Continuity of Education Allowance can apply it towards the cost of boarding at Ampleforth College. The allowance is available for children who start school the year in which they turn 8 years old up to when they turn 18/19 years old.

Sibling discount is no longer awarded to those in receipt of CEA and scholarships awarded will be honorary, carrying no further fee remission.
Note that you must claim your CEA before your child reaches Year 12, as new awards are not granted in Years 12 and 13. Ampleforth is maintaining a policy that sets the fee at 10% of the relevant CEA, and this fully incorporates the VAT element.

Our Admissions team is experienced in guiding parents through this process and can offer personalised support at every stage. We work closely with families to ensure a smooth transition for pupils joining the school.
