Visiting the School
Most families begin the admissions process by visiting Ampleforth to look around, meet students and staff and get a better feel for the College. This is very important and some families visit on several occasions in the lead-up to their children joining.
On a normal visit, you will enjoy a tour of the School with current students, see the boarding houses, meet housemistresses and housemasters and other key members of staff. Depending on your child’s interests, these could include the Director of Music or the Head of Games, for example. All children meet the Registrar before an offer of a place is made, either in person or through an online platform.
Visits during the Autumn Term 2020
Our priority is keeping all our students, staff and visitors as safe as possible. Visitors are very welcome in line with UK Government Covid-19 guidelines and you will be able to have a tour of the campus and meet key members of staff. Visits to boarding houses can only take place online currently. Please click here to watch recorded tours of each House. Meetings with staff, including Housemistresses and Housemasters, will be arranged either in person or online. There will be opportunities to speak to current students too. We are renowned for our Benedictine hospitality and normally like to invite you to have lunch with our students but sadly this is currently not possible. In advance of your visit, we will require you to confirm that you are healthy and have abided by all relevant UK Government guidance. Your contact details will be taken in case track and trace is required.
A virtual visit
The Admissions Department is happy to organise a virtual visit for you and arrange appointments with key members of staff online. Please complete the enquiry form below and we will be in touch to discuss your requirements and find a suitable date.
Join an e-Open Event
Many families have enjoyed our e-Open Days since visits in person have become more difficult. These allow you to learn more about Ampleforth from the comfort of your own home. We will continue to offer virtual events for the foreseeable future as well as on-site Open Days when possible.
During e-Open Days the Head, Mr Dyer, and other members of the Senior Leadership Team will speak and you will hear current students talking about their own experiences. You will be able to ask questions and request to speak to specific members of staff. To see details of all upcoming events and register, please click here.
Perhaps you may wish to extend your visit and explore this beautiful area of North Yorkshire. Please click here for a list of local accommodation providers in and around Ampleforth.
The School has an arrangement with Hertz Car Hire (01904 500193) at York Station. To make a reservation parents should contact Hertz at least 24 hours in advance and they should quote Ampleforth College and the discount number CDP 712273. This arrangement is only available at the York branch of Hertz.
