Annette Du Randt is the Housemistress of St Bede’s. Originally from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Annette has spent much of her life in boarding schools, beginning as a student at St Alban’s College in Pretoria in 1993. After moving to the UK in 2008 and becoming a British citizen, she went on to hold a variety of roles at Mount St Mary’s College and St Bede’s Prep, including Assistant Housemistress, Housemistress, Head of Boarding, and Designated Safeguarding Lead. Her philosophy is to make boarding feel like a genuine home from home, built on trust, support, and a healthy dose of humour. Annette takes pride in getting to know each student as an individual, celebrating their achievements and supporting them through challenges. She is supported in St Bede’s by Assistant Housemistress Hayley Edgar, who has been part of the house team for several years. Annette is dedicated to fostering a warm and welcoming environment in St Bede’s and to working closely with her team to create a vibrant and supportive boarding community.
About St Bede
The Venerable Bede (673-735) was the greatest scholar of his age and of the English Church. Born in Monkton, Jarrow, Bede went to live in St Peter’s monastery in Wearmouth at the age of seven. He later moved to the new foundation in Jarrow, where he remained as a Benedictine monk for the rest of his life. Bede is best known for his Ecclesiastical History of the English People, completed in 731, one of the greatest sources for the history of Anglo-Saxon England. Saint Bede is buried in Durham Cathedral.
