St Margaret's
St Margaret’s was founded in Fairfax House in 2004, at the southern end of the School. The other half of Fairfax House is occupied by St Hugh's. Both have beautiful views over the playing fields to the valley beyond.
Virtual House Tour
The House can cater for 70 girls. The first year girls sleep in dorms of four, second and third year girls have twin en-suite rooms, and the sixth form have en-suite rooms.
Rebecca Paterson is the Housemistress of St Margaret's. She joined Ampleforth from Ursuline High School, a Catholic girls’ school in Wimbledon, where she was the Assistant Head Teacher. Rebecca lives in the House with her husband Mark and their two young children, Eleanor and Thomas.
Rebecca previously taught Christian Theology and Philosophy and holds a BA in Theology from Leeds University and a Graduate Teaching Diploma from Warwick University. She has extensive teaching experience both pastoral and academic and across all types of schools. Previously she has been Head of Sixth Form and Head of RE at an international school, St Ignatius in the Cayman Islands and Housemistress at St Columba’s College in St Albans. She was also a Deputy Housemistress at our sister school, Worth, so is very familiar with the Benedictine ethos.
About St Margaret
St Margaret Clitheroe of York (1556-1586) was a well-known married Catholic woman in York. Marrying at the age of 18, Margaret converted to Catholicism and became a friend of the persecuted Roman Catholic population in the north of England. She was executed for harbouring Catholic priests in 1586 and was the first woman to be executed under the religious suppression of Elizabeth I.
