The start of the Ampleforth journey

Junior House is home for children in Years 7 and 8 where every girl and boy feels loved, part of a family, and able to achieve their best. They have lots of fun enjoying all the benefits of the specialist expertise, opportunities, and extensive range of facilities on offer from Ampleforth College.

Whether joining as a boarder or day student, these crucial years are a significant period in a child's development, and Junior House provides the perfect environment for growth, discovery, and the nurturing of individual talents. It also serves as an excellent beginning and stepping stone in preparation for the Senior School.

Ampleforth’s mission to educate the whole child, mind, body, and soul, enabling them to flourish to the full in life, is embodied in Junior House in a way that is bespoke to 11 and 12-year-olds with:

  • A broad and ambitious curriculum designed to enthuse, inspire curiosity, and foster a lifelong love of learning
  • A huge range of extra-curricular opportunities and activities to enable the broadest possible experience and encourage the discovery of interests and talents
  • Nurturing pastoral care which cherishes and loves each child as a gift from God, and through which they learn to serve the needs of others

The wonderful team of Junior House staff offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere and a true home-from-home giving students a nurturing and well-supported environment for each of them to seize the opportunities available.

Explore, Enrich, Enthuse

Years 7 and 8 follow a broad and ambitious curriculum designed to enthuse, enrich learning, and enable children to explore as widely as possible and discover their interests and talents before beginning to specialise as they move up through the Senior School. We aim to challenge and stretch our pupils in a stimulating environment to encourage the inherent sense of wonder that young learners find in the world around them.
